Seattle 2

Our Saturday started with a long walk through Discovery park which starts just at the end of their street. It is really big and you can walk forever, has some heavily forested areas and some more open areas, some old buildings and some great views when you get near the water. We were going to meet Marie on the walk but we did not find one another until the end so we had our visit, a great visit, back at the house. Then it was off to the Pike st markets which were very colourful and fun. Of course there was great foods things to see and we had a few small tastes along the way. Our targets were a Mexican store and a Spanish grocery store looking for sauces and spices and other special ingredients. Of course there was too much to buy but I managed to pick up a few treasures.
We made a quick trip to the super market before heading home to cook which was a joint effort. Me on the main, rice with sausage onion and silver beet, buzzie on desert, chipotle brownies, and Miguel on befores, olives cheeses and cured meats which I have never heard of before. This house is definitely set up for cooking and Miguel had the biggest container of paprika I have ever seen.
Also we had one bottle of a Belgian beer made by Trappist monks which is famous and this needs a whole post of its own but that is not going to happen. Buzzie has sent the info to Josh.

John Mahoney arrived on Monday 27 Jan   2025   for his third visit to Australia. His first two days included Jerry meeting him at the airport in Sydney for the train trip to Newcastle, landing at 47 King St Stockton in the early afternoon, dinner at our place with  Anna, Kate and granddaughter Bénédicte (with a fab Shiraz from Anna and a  beautiful Pavlova made by Benne), surviving a blistering hot Monday by laying low, sharing a pub dinner  with Josh’s family at the Gates Hotel and then experiencing a full a southerly buster as only Australia can deliver.  A southerly buster  is when it is so hot you think it just cannot get any hotter and then a storm arrives with wind and rain and often lightening and the temperature drops in minutes. So City 3

Yesterday i just hung out with Noni. We shortened my newest Apron bought in Sydney in the last few weeks before my departure. She really likes the style so we aRe going to try to making a pattern from it before I go and maybe make one. Last night we went to a church group dinner, not sure which one, but it was a turkey dinner since thanksgiving is not far away. Uncle mike did not go so it was non and gramps, Linda and I, the original famiglia. It was in the All Souls School cafeteria so driving into the playground and walking into the cafeteria brought back all sorts of memories. Although there were a few younger folk ( there was a high school class doing the serving), most were 60 and up with probably half in the 80 plus group. Of course they all know one another and Non and Gramps are stars and Auntie Lindy is well loved, everyone is happy to have them at their table, so even though we were a little late to get 4 seats together, one of the tables adjusted to fit us in. River rock casino

Saturday was all about getting together with Auntie bebba for some legal stuff and then taking her to pne of the Indain casinos for a spot of gambling. Bebba aka Genevieve is 89 and now living with Auntie Juanita and Fred in Russian River. I guess gramps has taken on some role in helping her manage her money. So first we stopped at Auntie Juanitas and you can see her grotto outside in pne of the picture. Auntie bebba is looking great. the ramos family were good laughers but hers was always and atill is the best. she is pretty sharp althpugh has lost lots of weight, but gets around wothout any walking aids. She loves to gamble and really knows her way around the casino. Auntie Y says she would go every day if she could. The Casino was Mind boggling, huge and absolutely full of people. Plenty of penny machines so that is what we stuck to. However it is still pretty easy to lose money. We were there for about 4 hours all up and we had late lunch in the middle.
